Control of phloem unloading by source activities and light

Control of phloem unloading by source activities and light

Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, France 25(5): 625-634

Mature leaves of previously dark-grown Gomphrena globosa plants were able to import 14C-assimilates from a source leaf when kept in a CO2-free atmosphere. This was demonstrated by using a system consisting of one pair of mature leaves connected to a length of stem; one leaf served as the source, the other as the sink. Phloem unloading was indicated by metabolism of imported sucrose.
