Control of the cowpea weevil Callosobruchus maculatus, at the farmer level in Senegal
Treatment of stored cowpeas in the laboratory in Senegal with groundnut oil or the fumigant carbon tetrachloride failed to control Callosobruchus maculatus. Among 8 insecticides tested, pirimiphos-methyl at 10 p.p.m. gave the best results. When further tested at 12.5 p.p.m. in farmers' stores in the Sahel zone of Senegal, pirimiphos-methyl was effective for 6 months.
