Conventional extractants for phosphate fertilizers characterize the chemical compounds present in the fertilizer more than its availability to plants under normal agricultural practice. This availability depends on the nature and the P2O5 content of the soil to which the fertilizer is applied. Because of the conventional character of the extractants used, the phosphorus present in different types of P fertilizers can be more or less solubilized by the same reagent.
