SUCAM, the arm of the Brazilian Ministry of Health charged with the organization of public health campaigns, employed 29 000 people in 1984. In this paper, based on the reports of various sections of SUCAM, details are given on the activities undertaken to control malaria, Chagas' disease (caused by Trypanosoma cruzi), schistosomiasis, yellow fever, leishmaniasis, trachoma, filariasis and endemic goitre.
