Control of tick-borne disease in cattle

In the UK, louping ill, Cytoecetes phagocytophila infection and Babesia divergens infection are all transmitted by Ixodes ricinus. Clinical signs, treatment and control are summarized. In the author's practice, in Tavistock, analysis of the seasonal incidence of B. divergens infection during 1956-86 revealed two annual peaks, the higher in May and the lower in September, confirming the existence of two distinct populations of ticks.
