Control of tomato and cucumber growth in NFT by means of rockwool and polyurethane blocks

Revue de l' Agriculture 39(5): 963-968

Tomato plants (cv. Dombito) in rockwool blocks were placed in NFT channels (on 23 January) and when the second truss appeared some of the blocks were placed on larger rockwool or polyurethane (PU) blocks (20 x 15 x 4 cm or 20 x 15 x 2 cm). The large blocks enhanced earliness but reduced total yield. Yields were higher with thin PU blocks than with rockwool blocks. Cucumber plants (of female Corona) in rockwool blocks were placed directly in NFT solution or large rockwool or PU blocks.
