A monitoring and control system was designed based on a microcomputer. To reduce hardware costs (a minimum of 5 solenoids have to be activated, in different combinations, for each chamber), a 10 x 10 output matrix was designed. By combining 2 tenpoint solid state logic steppers, the system could control 100 rather than 20, and required only 2 parts on the computer. When the system was powered with an a.c. power supply, an unpredicted electrical leakage occurred, causing random relays to close.
