Control weeds in row crops by intercropping with legumes

Control weeds in row crops by intercropping with legumes

Indian Farming 36(9): 33-34

In trials at Delhi, intercropping of cowpeas, green gram groundnuts and soyabeans in sorghum markedly suppressed the growth of monocotyledonous weeds Echinochloa sp. and Dactyloctenium aegyptium, had no effect on dicotyledonous weeds Digera arvensis, increased sorghum grain yields from 1.44 t/ha in pure stands to 1.93-2.79 t and gave additional seed/pod yields of 0.33-0.85 t/ha and fresh fodder yields of 29.26 t in cowpeas.
