Bovine Practitioner (21): 146-149
Controlled breeding of dairy heifers: observations over a five year period
Over a 5-yr period, 191 Holstein-Friesian heifers were inseminated following oestrus synchronization with 2 injections of a PGF2 alpha analogue, 11 days apart. The heifers were not selected prior to synchronization, and no heat detection methods were used. Overall CRs for the 5-yr period were 59.8% for timed inseminations, ranging from 50% in years 3 and 5 to 76.2% in year 4.
