Controlled mating. Evaluation of some production and reproduction traits at different seasons of the year (spring, summer, autumn and winter)

, : Controlled mating. Evaluation of some production and reproduction traits at different seasons of the year (spring, summer, autumn and winter). 1er Congreso Nacional de Produccion Ovina, Mexico, 1988: 136-139

Data on approx. 100 criollo ewes mated with Suffolk, Rambouillet or Corriedale rams, were analysed. Ewes mated in winter had the lowest CR and "absolute prolificacy" (4% and 3% resp.), and those mated in summer had the highest rates (78 and 82.4%), falling to 77 and 79% resp. for autumn matings. Overall "relative prolificacy" was 100-120%. Lamb birth weight was lowest for ewes mated in Jan.-June (4.3-4.5 kg), and highest for those mated in autumn (5.0 kg).

This points to differences in the pathogenesis. In the pres...
