Controlled release formulation of attractant for the onion and seed-corn flies, Hylemya antiqua and H. platura (Diptera: Anthomyiidae)

The release rates of the constituents of an aqueous attractant for Hylemya antiqua and H. platura were investigated in the laboratory and an onion field in Japan in 1983-84. The attractant was an aqueous solution of a mixture of 0.2% 2-phenylethanol and 0.05% valeric acid. The release rate of 2-phenylethanol and valeric acid from the aqueous attractant was estimated to be 1.4-3.5 and 0.5-1.2 mg/h (initial rate-final rate), respectively, in the field at 25 degrees C and 54% RH.
