Effect of an excessive intake of protein on calcium status

During 25 days 7 healthy women of normal body weight and from 20 to 23 years old had a natural basic diet containing 73 g protein and 1000 and 1200 mg calcium and phosphorus daily. Usual activities were maintained. After 5 days of adaptation the diet was supplemented during 10 days with 0.72 and 0.88 g methionine and cystine and on the final 10 days with 62 g lysine-enriched wheat protein, methionine and cystine in the diet remaining about the same as in period 2.
