Effect of different nitrogen rates on uptake and distribution of N, P, K, Mg in oat plants

In greenhouse pot trials oat grain and biomass yields increased with N rate up to an optimum of 2.4-3.2 g N/pot (8 kg soil/sand mixture) and decreased at higher rates. The increase in N content with N rate was greater in straw than in grains. Increasing N rate increased the proportions of the total P and K in the grains and increased Mg content in all aboveground parts.
