Effect of energy intake by narrow pen reared sows during lactation on sow and litter performance

Journal of Taiwan Livestock Research 20(2): 17-25

Forty-two Landrace sows reared in narrow pens were used to examine the effects of energy intakes during a 4-week lactation on performance of sows and litters. Diets contained metabolizable energy 10.3, 11.2 or 12.2 Mcal/sow daily for parity 1 and 2 (Experiment 1); and 11.3, 12.2 and 13.2 Mcal/sow daily for parity 3 (Experiment 2). In Experiment 1, sows given diets with lower energy contents had increased net lactation weight loss and backfat loss.
