Effect of method of planting and mulching on yield and quality of fresh market tomatoes

Effect of method of planting and mulching on yield and quality of fresh market tomatoes

Acta Horticulturae (190): 425-428

In 2-year trials, direct sowing vs. transplanting was compared using the Pearson V.F.36 in combination with mulching treatments (clear plastic or straw mulch). There was no significant difference in marketable yield or percentage of defective fruits between direct sowing and transplanting, but direct-sown plants gave larger fruits than transplanted ones. Clear plastic mulch gave a higher yield and a lower percentage of defective fruits than either the non-mulched control or straw mulch.
