Effect of nitrogen rates and date of application on spring barley grain quality

Effect of nitrogen rates and date of application on spring barley grain quality

Rostlinna Vyroba 31(8): 807-815

In field trials in 1981-83 at Malanta with preceding crops of silage maize or winter wheat, spring barley Opal, Rubin, and Kredit was grown and given 0, 50, 75 or 100 kg N/ha with the 2 higher rates in single or split doses. The higher N rates (as single or split doses) decreased the malting quality traits of barley; quality was best at 0-50 kg N. Grain quality was better in Rubin than in Opal and Kredit. Weather conditions had a considerable influence on grain quality.
