Effect of pruning and spacing on the yield and quality of capsicums grown in plastic tunnels

Cultivars Rumba and Cadice, planted in heated tunnels in the first half of May at 2, 3 or 4 plants/msuperscript 2, were pruned-trained to 2 or 3 main shoots or they were left unpruned. The highest marketable yield, irrespective of cv., was produced by plants with 3 main shoots. Pruning increased early yield and mean fruit weight compared with no pruning. The closest spacing (65 x 38 cm i.e. 4 plants/msuperscript 2) produced the highest yield.
