Effect of sowing date on some yield components in winter wheat

In a study of 11 varieties during 1979-82 with sowing on 20 September and 15 October using 4 or 6 million seeds/ha, the number of fertile spikelets/spike was favourably affected by late sowing and was highest at 4 million seeds/ha in So1586 (with both sowing dates) and with 6 million seeds/ha in Bu17. Late sowing also had a favourable effect on grain number/spikelet, which was greatest under all conditions in So1586 (2.13-2.42) and least in Yubileinaya (1.75-1.91).
