Effect of sowing dates on incidence of sucking pests and bollworms in arboreum cotton

The effect of sowing dates(April 25, May 9 and May 23) on the incidence of sucking pests (jassid, aphid and whitefly) and bollworms in three varieties of arboreum cotton (G 27, LD 133 and LD 230) was studied. Delayed sowing did not affect the population of cotton whitefly. The population of cotto jassid was higher on May 9 sown crop than on May 23 sown crop. The cotton aphid population was, however, higher on April 25 sown crop than in the case of later two sowings. The mean maximum poulation of cotton jassid and whitefly was observed on August 13 in all the three varieties. Similar was the trend of population increase of cotton aphid on LD 230 and G 27 varities, but in LD 133, the maximum population was observed on July 17. The delayed sowing did not affect the extent of bollworm incidence. There were no significant differences among the population of sucking pests and bollworms on all the varities of cotton. The yield of seed-cotton was significantly low in late (May 23) sown crop as compared to earlier two sowings. The yield of G 27 was singificantly less than that of LD 133 and LD 230.
