Effect of the spatial structure of interacting populations of the fox-colored sawfly (Neodiprion sertifer) and its parasite Extenterus abruptorius on the dynamics of their numbers

Effect of the spatial structure of interacting populations of the fox-colored sawfly (Neodiprion sertifer) and its parasite Extenterus abruptorius on the dynamics of their numbers

Translation, Environment Canada (2476): 20

Studies in Voronezh Province, Russia, in 1974-75 showed that E. abruptorius was attracted only to host populations forming aggregates NOT<20-30 m wide. Aggregation of N. sertifer was artificially induced by treating alternate strips in infested 12-yr-old Scots pine stands with trichlorfon so that the parasite reproduced intensively on the untreated strips. Next year the parasites of the new generation migrated over the whole area.
