Effect of treatment with PEG on the germination of Pinus nigra, Larix decidua and Pseudotsuga menziesii seeds

Seeds were pretreated with aqueous PEG solutions at 15 degrees C under a variety of osmotic potentials and treatment times. An osmotic potential of -5.8 bar gave the best results for all species. PEG always shortened average germination time. All the PEG-pretreated seeds of P. menziesii and one seed sample of P. nigra showed higher germination % than untreated seeds.
