Effect of water stress on growth and the uptake of water and nutrients by tomatoes

Bulletin of the Vegetable and Ornamental Crops Research Station, A Ano, Mie (13): 71-84
Effect of water stress on growth and the uptake of water and nutrients by tomatoes
Plants of 8 cultivars planted in plastic pots in a greenhouse on 11 Nov. were watered as required from 26 Nov. (control) or allowed to wilt for several days before re-watering. The water saturation deficit of the leaves rose rapidly when watering was withheld; after watering recommenced, it dropped rapidly to reach the same level as in the control, but the total water uptake by the wilted plants was lower than that for the controls after the treatment.
