A study was made of the effects on wind speed and potential evaporation of windbreaks of Acacia cyanophylla, Casuarina equisetifolia, Opuntia ficus-indica and an artificial windbreak of plastic netting with a permeability of 50%. The A. cyanophylla and C. equisetifolia windbreaks were young and situated in a young pear orchard, and had a permeability of 50-70%. The O. ficus-indica windbreak was older with a permeability of <less or =>20%.
