Effects of carbon dioxide pretreatment on induction frequency in rice anther culture

Anthers of the japonica rice cultivars Jinghong 2 and Zagen 19 were pretreated with 0.03, 6, 18 and 100% CO2 at 8 +or- 1 degrees C for 3, 5 or 6 days, and then cultured in N6 medium at 26 +or- 1 degrees C. Callus formation after treatment with 100% CO2 for 3, 5 and 6 days was respectively 1.57, 2.05 and 28.8 times that of the control, while after treatment with 6% and 18% for 5 and 6 days, it was lower.
