Effects of certain salts and their combinations on germination and seedling development of Securigera securidaca Linn

Effects of certain salts and their combinations on germination and seedling development of Securigera securidaca Linn

Arab Gulf Journal of Scientific Research 4(1): 5-12

A laboratory study was carried out to examine effects of NaCl, Na2SO4, MgSO4 and their combinations at 13 concentrations (expressed as osmotic pressure, OP) ranging from 0 to 16 OP. All salts inhibited S. securidaca germination and seedling development but seedling development was more sensitive than germination. The effect of MgSO4 on germination was essentially osmotic, while those of NaCl and Na2SO4 were presumably due to toxic or ionic actions.
