Effects of chemical hardwood control on first-year performance of underplanted loblolly pine

Effects of chemical hardwood control on first-year performance of underplanted loblolly pine

Proceedings, Southern Weed Science Society, 39th annual meeting: 218

Overstory hardwoods, mainly Quercus stellata were reduced most effectively by sorghum injections of 1:1 Velpar L (hexazinone) : water at 2 ml/2.5 cm d.b.h. and by broadcast application of 2.02 kg hexazinone (as Pronone 10G)/ha, but this treatment caused severe pine (Pinus taeda) mortality. Injection of picloram + 2,4-D (as Tordon 101) was less effective but better than dicamba injection.
