In summer, and compared with cows offered drinking water at 30 degrees C, cows offered drinking water at 10 degrees C had higher intakes (3.67 vs. 3.36 kg/100 kg body weight), higher daily milk yields (27.31 vs. 25.77 kg), lower respiration rates (79.1 vs. 83.9 breaths/min), slightly lower body temp. (39.8 degrees C vs. 39.9 degrees C) and greater rumen motility (6.99 vs. 6.94 rumen contractions/5 min).
