Effects of chronic exposure of rats to ammonia on the histomorphological structure of the respiratory tract and on lung clearance. I. Mucociliary clearance of Staphylococcus aureus

Effects of chronic exposure of rats to ammonia on the histomorphological structure of the respiratory tract and on lung clearance. I. Mucociliary clearance of Staphylococcus aureus

Archiv fur Experimentelle Veterinarmedizin 41(3): 434-441

480 female Wistar rats were exposed to ammonia at 30, 50 or 150 mg/l for three, 14, 28 or 42 days. Fumigation was followed by a ten-minute application of a bacterial aerosol of S. aureus. Fluorescent microscopy was used to establish clearance by determination of concentrations of FITC-labelled S. aureus in pulmonary parenchyma.
