Effects of chronic fumigations with sulphur dioxide on the growth of some agricultural species

Effects of chronic fumigations with sulphur dioxide on the growth of some agricultural species

Revista della Ortoflorofrutticoltura Italiana 70(3): 215-229

In Perspex chambers, the effects of a 5 week exposure to SO2 on DM production, growth attributes, chlorophyll content, diffusion resistance and S accumulation of sunflowers Kiwi, soyabeans Hodgson, maize Serena and Spinacia oleracea Hybrid 7 were studied. In sunflower, the exposure to 70 p.p.b. SO2 induced some beneficial effects on DM production, especially at leaf level. No significant effect was observed in chlorophyll content, but an increase in stomatal resistance was detected.
