Effects of confinement on the response to selection for stress tolerance - model investigations on laboratory mice

Male mice were selected for treadmill performance for 8 generations, or were unselected controls. Mice were housed in cages of 25, or confined in stress cages. In the 8th generation, the treadmill performance of mice in the selected lines housed in groups of 25 or confined was 100 and 24% greater resp. than that of controls.
