Effects of copper on the growth of cucumber seedlings and the activities of peroxidase and IAA-oxidase

Effects of copper on the growth of cucumber seedlings and the activities of peroxidase and IAA-oxidase

Plant Physiology Communications Zhiwu Shenglixue Tongxun (3): 22-24

Cucumber seedlings were cultured in Knop solution containing 0.04-0.06 p.p.m. Cu. Growth was best at 0.05 p.p.m. and was inhibited at concentrations < 0.04 or > 0.06 p.p.m. Growth was abnormal in conditions of Cu deficiency and seedlings died after 29 days. Cu at 1 p.p.m. resulted in stunted growth and browning of the root system. Peroxidase and IAA-oxidase activities were increased at high or low Cu concentrations.
