Effects of correlation between means and variances on generation means analysis

Effects of correlation between means and variances on generation means analysis

Genetica Agraria 41(3): 257-266

In the analysis of four cowpea Vigna unguiculata traits: pod length, seed weight, seed crowding and number of seeds per pod, significant correlations were observed between means and variances for pod length and seed weight. Such correlations biased the estimates of variances and distorted the expected association between heterogeneity of the different generations and their respective variances. Reduction in correlation between means and variances enhanced the conformity of data to the additive dominance model and also increased the estimates of additive variance.
