Interim results from a 5-year study initiated in 1983 showed no effect on total weed biomass or distribution of population components after 3 years of crop rotation (continuous soyabeans; wheat/soyabeans; wheat/soyabeans/maize and maize/wheat/soyabeans). Tillage had no effect on broadleaved weed components of the population but a significant increase in biomass of Digitaria sanguinalis, Cynodon dactylon and Sorghum halepense was found on no-tillage as opposed to conventionally tilled plots.
