Effects of cultural methods and herbicides on yield of cotton and its economics under rainfed conditions

The field experiment was conducted during 1981-82 and 1982-83 at Parbhani and Nanded to study the effects of cultural methods and herbicides on yield of cotton and its economics under rainfed conditions. Three hand weedings + three hoeings recorded the highest seed cotton yield as compared to other cultural treatments. The application of N-(2-Chloroethyl)-2,6-dinitro-N-Propyl-4-(trifluromethyl)aniline (Basalin) + 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,dimethyl urea (Ronstar) was found to be very effective amongst herbicidal treatments. Cultural methods were, however, found more effective for weed control in cotton than the use of herbicides. Highest net returns of Rs.2.537/-were recorded with three weedings + three hoeings followed by N-(2-chloroethyl)-2,6-dinitro-N-Propyl 4-(trifluromethyl) aniline + 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1, dimethyl urea (Kamax).
