Effects of cutting on nodule development and nitrogen fixation in alfalfa

In field trials in 1982, Medicago sativa Luna was left uncut or cut on 8 June at flowering and 24 July at seed maturation stages; nodule DM accumulation and acetylene reduction activity were monitored at 13-30 day intervals from 5 Apr. to 26 Sep. Nodule FW was 30% lower on cut than on uncut plots 30 and 45 days after the 1st cut and 20% lower 15 days after the 2nd cut, with no significant differences between plots 15 days later.
