Effects of dam condition and temporary separation of calves prior to breeding on the reproductive performance of the cows

Effects of dam condition and temporary separation of calves prior to breeding on the reproductive performance of the cows

Agriculture and Forestry Bulletin, University of Alberta (66): 75-77

170 beef synthetic and dairy synthetic cows were studied. Cow condition score at calving was significantly correlated with 2 cow condition indices, based on weight/height ratio measured at calving and at the start of breeding (0.49 and 0.46 resp.). The indices were strongly associated with age of cow, but condition score was unaffected by age. Temporary cow-calf separation prior to the start of the breeding season slightly affected CR and percentage calf crop born.
