Effects of deforestation on the soils of the Antequera region (Malaga, Spain). I. General characters of the area and profile morphology



Anales de Edafologia y Agrobiologia 44(5/6): 681-698



Soils of the Antequera region of Spain are developed on marls, Triassic sandstones and Miocenic calcarenites. The landscape consists of small hills. The climate is mediterranean, the temperature regime is thermic and the soil moisture regime is xeric. Well-preserved remains of oak forest are present, although the majority of the area is cultivated. Two profiles under forest and two under cultivation are described in detail.
