Effects of dietary additions of 1,3-butanediol or lard for sows on survival of neonatal pigs

Effects of dietary additions of 1,3-butanediol or lard for sows on survival of neonatal pigs

Journal of Animal Science 63(4): 1156-1162

In 9 trials, 278 late-term pregnant sows were fed on isoenergetic amounts (8500 kcal metabolizable energy (ME) daily) of a fortified maize-soyabean meal based diet in which 20% of their daily ME intake was supplied by maize starch, 1,3-butanediol or lard from about day 106 of pregnancy to parturition. After parturition, the sow's daily ME intake was increased to 18 000 kcal.
