Effects of dietary fiber levels on digestibility, performance and cecal microbial activity in growing rabbits

Two groups of Baladi rabbits were fed on diets poor or rich in fibre from 5 to 15 weeks old. Feed intake, liveweight gain, feed efficiency, crude fibre digestibility and caecal microbial activity were measured. Rabbits given more fibre ate more daily, 64 g, and gained more, 13.4 g, than did rabbits on the fibre-poor diet, 56 and 11.9 g, with the same feed efficiency, 5.3.
