Sixty obese women were given dietary advice for 2 months such that strict adherence would result in a daily energy intake of 1400 kcal. They were also given 6 tablets 3 times daily of placebo or dietary fibre to increase fibre intake by 5 g. In another study 45 women were treated for 3 months as before but the energy itake was 1800 kcal and fibre intake increased by 8 g daily.
