Effects of dietary protein level and body condition on milk yield and composition in cows fed low fiber diets

Between wk 3 and 6 and wk 7 and 12 of lactation, 20 cows were given normal and low-fibre diets (22 vs. 9% acid detergent fibre). Cows had been given low- or high-energy diets (LE and HE, resp.) from 8 wk before expected calving date and from the beginning of wk 3 of lactation diets contained crude protein at 14 or 23% (LP and HP, resp.). Change in dietary fibre increased milk yield in cows given HE-HP and LE-LP diets but reduced milk yield in cows given LE-HP and HE-LP diets.
