Effects of different baling moisture content and storage period on the quality of Pangola grass hay

Effects of different baling moisture content and storage period on the quality of Pangola grass hay

Taiwan Livestock Research 19(2): 43-54

Digitaria decumbens hay was baled at 21.2, 25.4 or 31.2% moisture and stored for 0-6 months under well ventilated conditions indoors. Wt losses of 6.6, 11.2 and 23.3% occurred in the 1st month, after which wt equilibrated with atmospheric conditions and remained almost constant. Equilibrium moisture contents were 16.5, 17.3 and 17.2%, resp., in the 3 treatments. Curing time in the field had no effect on hay quality at baling.
