Effects of different directions of ploughing on some physical characteristics of a hillside soil

In trials in 1983-85 plots were ploughed with the contour, obliquely across the contour or perpendicularly to the content and sorghum or wheat was sown. Runoff, soil moisture and soil structure were investigated. Erosion was generally moderate, with the highest levels in the plot ploughed perpendicularly to the contour. Soil moisture was highest in the plot ploughed with the contour and lowest in the plot ploughed perpendicularly to the contour.
