Effects of different population sizes and selection intensities on short-term response to selection for pupal weight in Tribolium castaneum

The response to selection for increased pupal weight (on the day of pupation) was studied in laboratory populations of Tribolium castaneum over 8 generations using 3 population sizes (10, 20 and 40 pairs of parents) and 3 selected proportions (10, 20 and 30%). The average rate of response in selected lines was significant, being 10>20>30% with few exceptions. There was no consistent trend across population sizes for a given selection intensity.
