Effects of different storage containers on long-term storage of milled rice

Effects of different storage containers on rice quality were determined at monthly intervals in terms of insect infestation, free fatty acid and rancidity, cooking and eating qualities, whiteness and moisture changes. Insects were the major problem in brown and milled rice storage. Milled rice at 13.5%-14.0% moisture content (m.c.) (wet basis) could be stored for up to 6 months in jute sacks, ceramic jars or polyethylene bags.
