Effects of different types of water stress on ethylene production, contents of ACC and MACC in wheat plants

In excised wheat seedlings exposed to air, ethylene and ACC (1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid) levels increased rapidly at first and then declined, while MACC (N-malonyl-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid) accumulated gradually and continuously. Under drought in sand culture, these changes did not occur until the 2nd day. Under drought conditions in soil, ethylene production and ACC and MACC contents did not increase.
