In field trials in 1976-83 on an acid brown earth, a permanent Festuco-commutatae-Cynosuretum grassland (subassociation Arrhenatheretosum) was given no fertilizer, or spring applications of 32 kg P + 66 kg K with 50, 150 or 300 kg N/ha and utilized either as meadow (3 cuts/year) or pasture (5 cuts). Hay yield increments/kg N were reduced as N rate increased, particularly in pasture utilization in the latter half of the growing season.
