Effects of duration of exposure to ethylene on flowering of Dutch iris

The flowering percentage in the cultivars Ideal and Professor Blaauw increased and the percentage of non-flowering 3-leaved plants decreased in proportion to the duration of bulb exposure (0-72 h) to ethylene at 10 mu l/litre air or to the number of ethylene applications (1-3). Propylene, acetylene and CO had similar effects to ethylene only at concentrations of 1000-10 000 mu l/litre air.
