Effects of ethanol on the riboflavin metabolism in the lens

Effects of ethanol on the riboflavin metabolism in the lens

International Journal for Vitamin and Nutrition Research. Internationale Zeitschrift für Vitamin- und Ernahrungsforschung. Journal International de Vitaminologie et de Nutrition 57(1): 106-106

Gel filtration and iboflavin were used to study effects in vivo and in vitro of ethanol on the esterification of riboflavin in the rat eye lens. Rats had 20% (v/v) ethanol in their drinking water for 4 weeks. Controls were given 30% (w/v) glucose. In experiments in vitro, ethanol was added to an incubation mixture of lens homogenate and iboflavin; the final ethanol concentration was from 5 to 20%.
