In field trials during 1982-85, the yield of wheat Coker 762 grown on a silt loam soil was reduced by the imposition of either a continuously high water table (within 0.3 m of the soil surface) or a cyclic treatment of a high water table for 14 days followed by drainage for 14 days between crop establishment and ripening.
